Greener Fields...

Maria and I have been so busy that we even began to neglect our little Nachito. Nacho was such a happy, energetic dog and we were unable to give him the attention he wanted and needed. Maria and I did what we had to do, much like one would do up north with a skunk we put him in a cage and drowned him.

I am totally kidding!! Please don't take that seriously, we love Nacho and would never do such a thing!

It is true though that Nacho has moved on to Greener Fields though. Maria found a co-worker who wanted him and fell in love with him as soon as she saw him. Her and her boyfriend took Nacho yesterday and today told Maria that they love him! Nacho loves to swim and they have a doggie lagoon at their complex and Nacho swam all night last night!

It was a bitter-sweet moment giving Nacho away but we are sure it was the best thing we could do under the circumstance.

Just an update...

I am up late tonight writing a paper for a history class and decided to take a little break and blog a bit. Things have been going well these last few days, still busy as ever. Maria has a week long break from school and has managed to de-stress a bit. She told me tonight that she got an A in one of her classes and is still waiting for the other grade to be posted. She starts classes again next week and is not looking forward to the statistics class. I am still trucking through my classes. I have a test in Philosophy, History and Accounting tomorrow (maybe I should have labeled this post "last will and testament").

Maria appears to be doing pretty good thus far with the whole pregnancy thing. I think the worst part for her has been sleeping at night (click here to read more about that!). Some days she feels a bit sick but she seems to be handling that part OK. The hormones have been a bit of a roller-coaster but we are both learning how to deal with them.

With out getting too sappy I should mention how grateful I am for Maria and all that she does. She works full time, goes to school full time, is pregnant full time and puts up with me full time! I am a pretty lucky man to have someone who is working so hard to start our family and help me through school.

I think I am going to go to bed now and finish my paper in the morning (I can hear Maria snoring and am getting a bit jealous!). Good-night.

KYOT

No Dad, this is not my new ham radio name. I am getting old and KYOT 95.5
"The Coyote" is proof of this. Recently I have been really getting into
this smooth jazz station. As embarrassing as it sounds, I can't resist the
enchanting sounds of Kenny G, Lionel Richie, and Marvin Gaye. When I am
driving to and from work, the slow methodical drawl of the announcer is
just the bee's knees! At 15 years old, Mom and I were shopping at Dillards
for dresses, they were pumping out slow jazz and I remember saying, "What
is this elevator music crap?" No more my friends, this stuff is the
greatest!

Futon sleeping

I have the most wonderful husband in the world! We both have been having a
hard time sleeping over the past week and a half or so. I'm sure Jake has
had a hard time because I thrash around in bed and am constantly going to
the bathroom. To solve the problem Jake dragged the futon mattress into
our bedroom floor and sleeps. I feel kind of bad, but can't tell you how
wonderful these last two nights have been.

Happy Birthday Katie!

Last night Katie, Carrie, and I were planning work out with by doing some
water aerobics and synchronized swimming. When we got to Carrie's house
and found out that it was Katie's birthday and instead decided to go eat
(great solution to exercising!) We headed down to Applebees in our swim
wear. Katie was adamant that we not tell the waitress it was her birthday.
Carrie and I wouldn't let that happen. After the meal 15 different waiters
came out and sang to her. While Carrie and I clapped along Kate had this
dead eye look. We are glad we got to hang out with you for your B-Day and
Think your new house is awesome!

Aaahhh Campfires...

This weekend Maria and I along with Jennifer and her hot date are going to do some Dutch Oven Cookin'. There are few things greater than sitting around a campfire with friends, having a good time and eating good food.

In St. Johns it was much easier and more frequent the occassions that I found my self in this situation but now in the city it is a rare treat. I am lucky enough to have an aunt who has a big peice of property (the farm) in Lehi who usually has no problem letting us do these kinds of things. (I haven't asked yet though so I hope she's cool with it!)

We are planning to have some Dutch Oven Enchiladas and roast some marshmallows and just relax and enjoy the cool weather and good company.

Jen in her excitment for Friday as put her thoughts into a small cartoon, take a look:

Happy Valentine's Day

8 Today is Valentine's Day and like most other days Maria and I will only see each other for about two hours (one hour at lunch and about an hour at 4pm before I go to class again tonight). I know that we are not the only two super busy couple in the world and that we will survive this but in the meantime is sure is tiring.

8 Maria and I have decided, as have others I am sure, to put off Valentines indefinitly until tomorrow. Tuesday nights and Friday nights appear to be the only two nights during the week that we are both home (usually doing homework).

8 Another Valentines difficulty that I, and the other Wilhelm son-in-laws, is that the bar of expectation is set so high! Growing up Valentine's Day for me was little more than a sugar high at school, but for Maria and her sisters it was so much more.

8 Maria says her dad would send all of them flowers at school and take them on dates or prepare a nice meal at home with other gifts. Even this year her dad managed to again surprise Maria and her sisters!
8 I feel pressure to keep up but don't know that I can right now! I think I speak for all us son-in-laws when I say we will do our best to do what we can but Spence you have given us some mighty big shoes to fill!

Fat Man on a Bike

Back in the day when I was young, energized and at least half the size I am now I would pedal my butt all over the place. My best friend and I were always discovering new places to go and things to do by bike.

When I first came to ASU after high school (2002) I used my bike to get me from the cheap parking lot about a mile away from campus to class everyday and got to where I really enjoyed using my bike on campus.

Saturday I bought a bike (click on picture for more info) and yesterday made the daring feat of riding my bike from home to class and back! It was nearly 20 miles round trip - and I did it! To my surprise it did not kill me (and I did not cause any accidents) and seems very doable in the future as a means of cutting back on gas use and hopefully as a means of getting in shape.

Later that night I even had enough energy to go and play raquetball with some friends and today I am not feeling all that sore.

Thank goodness for DVR!

Last night we were able to record the Super Bowl and watch it later, fast-forwarding throught the game and watching the commercials! We had some people over last night for dinner and watched a movie while the game was recording then we were able to see the National Anthem, the Half-time Show, and all the commercials.

I think we may have been the only people infront of a 47 inch flat screen NOT watching the game! It was awesome!
